FARMACIA PAINTING

When I was asked to make a piece for this Still Life show, I thought about a moment where life felt very surreal and I was looking for a “sign that everything was going to be alright.”

I was in CDMX visiting a relative who had a terminal illness so the atmosphere was heavy, but her gracefulness of acceptance and strength is something I still admire today. While I was in town visiting family, I came across my aunt’s altar in her home. It struck me and I felt some relief because she had this. The baby Jesus dressed as a pharmacist was a bonus, and like a crafty way of making something heavy into something cute.

This baby dr., Tchotchke, made me feel better.
